Biography

Wesley James DeCasere is an American tubist and music educator. His musical ​journey began with the trombone at the age of eight and transitioned to the tuba at ​fourteen. He holds two performance degrees from Lynn University and the University ​of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Wesley is now attending Rutgers University as a student of ​Alan Baer of the New York Philharmonic, pursuing an Artist Diploma.


Throughout his musical career, Wesley has had the privilege of working with several ​influential teachers and mentors, such as Gene Pokorny, Aaron Tindall, Steven ​Campbell, Kenneth Amis, Joseph Guimaraes, Brian Brown, and Marty Erickson.


As an educator, Wesley has taught students of all ages and skill levels across the ​United States. Recently, he worked as a teaching fellow at the Lutheran Summer ​Music Academy and Festival in Valparaiso, Indiana, where he taught low brass, ​chamber music, and music theory. Wesley has also performed and taught ​internationally, including giving a masterclass at the University of Santo Tomas in the ​Philippines and a solo performance in Mexico City.


As a performer, he served as a tubist with the South Florida Philharmonic while based ​in Boca Raton. In addition to classical performance, he spent his teenage years touring ​and performing with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. Wesley’s playing has been ​nationally recognized, as he was selected as a finalist for the United States Army ​Band' Pershing's Own' 2024 National Collegiate Solo Competition.

Examples

Music is about connection, ​whether that be with an ​inward connection to your ​soul or an outward ​connection with other ​people. As a teacher, it is my ​job to help my students ​work towards achieving this ​connection. My goal in this ​commitment is to teach ​students efficiency and ease ​in playing their instrument, ​fundamental approaches to ​musicality, and repertoire ​that meets their skill level/ ​specific interests.
